Birchbox, May 2011

I recieved my first Birchbox today! I’m going to go through it all in detail, because when I was considering signing up, I couldn’t find all THAT many reviews. So, perhaps this will help someone who is considering signing up!

So, first thing, the packaging’s kind of adorable. It comes in an outer box that’s pink, which unwraps to reveal this sturdy little cardboard box:

OK, pop the lid open, and everything is wrapped up very neatly and cutely in bright pink tissue paper: it feels like a cute pink present!!

And here’s what’s in the box. I dunno why only some of the stuff is tied up (cutely) in more pink tissue paper, but whatever. Also, it smells absolutely heavenly inside.

OK, and now all the tissue paper has been dispensed with, revealing the pile of samples!

Also, a little card with instructions and stuff. The other side has a little note about it being mother’s day, so this month’s box is celebrating moms with elegance and such.

OK, now onto the samples!

Jouer Luminizing Moisture Tint. There are two packets of this, in colors “Glow” and “Bronzed.” It’s SPF 20. Pretty nice, I approve of this one! I’m much more into makeup samples than repair cremes and perfumes and stuff. This is, oddly, not included in the list of samples on the above card.

Achipelago Pomegranate Soap. This’ll sit in my bathroom for the next 4 years, but it’s pretty, and it smells really good!

A little note card from Tiny Prints, and coupon codes for another free mini card and 50% off a purchase,  from their website. The card is nice and heavy, and very pretty, but I probably wouldn’t ever use the coupon. If I ever had a need for notecards though, I’d check here, because the sample seems to be good quality. Actually, personalized thank you cards would be kinda awesom, I might need to check this out after all.

Erno Laszlo Transphuse Night Serum. This is a “reparative firming treatment.” I’m always very skeptical of astronomically expensive skin-perfecting products like this.

Jouer Mini Tinted Lip Enhancer in “Champagne”. Another winner! This is supposed to be a moisturizing lipgloss with “plumping peptides.” The shade looks pretty universally flattering, I’m looking forward to trying this.

Bulgari Mon Jasmin Noir Fragrance. Another that I wasn’t really wild about because I don’t wear perfume, but I have to admit that this is the source of the wonderful smell wafting out of this box. I’m no good at describing scents, but to me it makes me think “feminine and elegant.” Like, a woman with perfect hair and perfectly applied makeup and immaculate business suits would wear this. That’s sooo not me, but I really like it.

All in all, I love my first Birchbox! The surprise factor is so much fun, I’ll be continuing my subscription. And perhaps looking into other services like this too. :)
